Description: You don't generally think of yourself as a crime victim,
do you? OK, maybe you're hip to the idea that
you've been a victim of eight years of Bush war,
Bush war crimes and torture, and all the other
Bush high crimes and misdemeanors - yeah, and
that's all true, I'm not saying it ain't --
but you don't think of yourself as a crime victim
even as we speak, now do you?
Well I hate to tell you -- you are getting mugged right now.
And so am I -- we're all getting mugged right now -
almost all of us - we're getting mugged by
the beltway bailout bandits.
You know who I'm talking about -
Hank "Yank the Bank" Paulson and his sidekick.
Ben "The Bagman" Bernanke - they're the
Butch and Sundance of the hole in the vault gang. ...
It's not just the $700 billion bailout that the Congress
voted for in September, but that's a good place to start.
That's $700 billion of your money they're playing with
and it's for the Troubled Asset Relief Program, which
is definitely a troubled program that provides relief
in the same way a stick-up man relieves you of your wallet.
Congress voted to make this program open and
transparent, with serious oversight - but the Treasury
Department just blew off the first report required by law -
because pick-pocket Paulson didn't name anyone to the
oversight board - he said it was an oversight.
So who's got our $700 billion?
Peter Piper Picked a Peck of Paulson won't say.
Did we get anything of value for our $700 billion?
Predatory practice Paulson don't say.
So what happened to transparency?
Opaque Paulson put your money where his mouth is.
And for dessert Paulson the purloiner gave the banks
another $140 billion just for being pals -
well, he didn't give them our money exactly,
he just changed the tax laws so they could save
$140 billion in taxes, and if the banks don't pay their taxes,
guess which suckers will, sucker?
Who said pilfer Paulson had the right to change
the law, you ask? Nobody. The very same nobody gave him
that authority. Same nobody who's gonna bust him
for taking the law into his own hands. Nobody.
You mean Congress doesn't care if someone
takes over its job writing laws?
Yeah, I mean Congress hasn't cared for eight years
who writes our laws just as long as Congress
gets overpaid for underperforming
So how do you tell the Republicrooks from the
Democraticrooks?
None of 'em says anything about $2 trillion -
two trillion - handed out by the Federal Reserve.
That's two trillion bucks in loans -- or so they say.
But that's all they say.
So who's got our $2 trillion?
Hanky-panky Bernanke won't say.
What collateral did the Fed get for our $2 trillion?
In the tank Bernanke don't say.
Bernanke wanker Barney Frank, the Democrat
from Massachusets, he says he asked about these loans -
these $2 trillion dollars worth of loans --
and one of Bernanke's skanky flunkies told Frank rankly,
"he was pretty sure that they're OK,"
and how much more reassurance do you need
for a mere $2 trillion dollars?
Besides, said Congressman Barney less than frank,
the banks don't want you to know what their
collateral assets are worth -
which is Democrats' demagoguery for maybe
those assets are worthless and the $2 trillion is
gone forever, but it's none of your business because
we pushed it through and it's your money.
Besides, said burglar Bernanke, we honor banking
confidentiality because grand larceny's grandeur
may tarnish in the light of day, casting a shadow
across the confidence man's honor.
In the end, you see, in this great American democratic
republic, it comes down always to the eternal
vigilance that's needed to protect minorities against
the tyranny of the majority - that's why we have
so many profiles of courage from Democrats
determined to defend America's bankers from the
unruly mob of those the banks have robbed.
And what about president-elect Barack Obama,
where does he stand on plundering the U.S. Treasury?
He stands aside. He knows his place.
For as Obama rightly says, we have only one
president at a time and it's not his place - yet -
to tell a sitting president who may loot and
who may be looted.
